Developing the field of Nuclear Cardiology for the detection of disease

Nuclear Cardiology is a branch of medical imaging which uses small amounts of radioactive substances for the diagnosis of heart disease. Nuclear Cardiology is an effective, non invasive way of detecting the extent of heart disease. Myocardial perfusion Imaging (MPI) scans provide a powerful and precise nuclear cardiology tool. Our Medical Director, Dr. Avijit Lahiri is a pioneer in the research and development of Nuclear Cardiology techniques.

Dipyrimidole is often used during MPI scanning. Unfortunately, dipyrimidole has side effects. A new compound with fewer side effects has recently been developed by the pharmaceutical company CV Therapeutics. We are involved in a multi-centre study testing the efficacy of this drug as a safer alternative to dipyrimidole in MPI scans.
